10 Reasons Why a Spanking Model is Like a Geisha (but not really)
Yesterday I watched “Memoirs of a Geisha” (a.k.a. Bitchfest in Kimonos), and it got me thinking about that profession in relation to spanking modelling. I’ve come up with a list of 10 things a spanking model has in common with a geisha, sort of, if you squint just so. Here’s the list:
Both a geisha and a spanking model get to wear outlandish, old-fashioned clothes to work… except ours come from charity shops.
Both a geisha and a spanking model endure strict discipline… except we choose to take the pain.
Both a geisha and a spanking model have to wear a lot of theatrical make-up… except ours doesn’t identify us at a glance.
Both a geisha and a spanking model draw on artistic skills not directly related to sexuality (playing an instrument, dancing and writing skill often come in useful in spanking video work, you know)… except nobody ever acts surprised that a geisha could possibly be good at arts.
Neither a geisha nor a spanking model will normally have sex as part of their work, though both can do it, if they like.
Neither a geisha nor a spanking model is likely to become wealthy from her work, though the common idea seems to be that both professions lead to easy riches.
Both a geisha and a spanking model can get away with having a relatively plain face… except a geisha can also get away with not having much of a bottom.
Neither a geisha nor a spanking model can easily succeed if she strikes out on her own.
Both a geisha and a spanking model compete for attention of a relatively small group of people… except we don’t feel a compulsive need to drive the competition out of town.
Both a geisha and a spanking model have interesting occupations traditionally possessing a degree of mystery… but a big-budget Holywood movie about spanking models is not coming out any time soon.

Brilliant. Perhaps some sort of spanking model academy could be set up to pass the ’secrets’ along?
Fantastic Adele. I have often pondered the similarities myself since oddly enough being a spanking model was as close as I could get to being a Geisha :-) I’ve been obsessed with the world of Geisha since I was little, and even have the Japanese lettering for Maiko tattooed on the small of my back (for those of you who ever wondered what it was!). The book of Memoirs of a Geisha is easily my favourite of all time, but I purchased the movie on DVD when at film school last year, and have yet to watch it! I think I am too scared of being disappointed. but I promise when I make it big I will make sure there is a big budget Holywood film made about spanking models… :-)) Great post hon.
The last one gave me pause for thought.
Someone in tinsel town might have thought of an idea like that, but even if they have, how hard would it be to get it made? I mean, most genres would involve the film being banned by the censors, so what are we left with, a teen comedy? From two of the six (or was that eight?) writers of Scary Movie?!
Please. Don’t do it to us, Hollywood. Let’s not have another National Lampoon’s Barely Legal.
Fos - I’m all for that. :) Although, secret academies (and other places of high concentration of competing females) lead to the sort of bitchy behaviour that the spanking model community is mostly lucky to avoid :)
Lucy - I never knew you even had a tattoo. *blushes* I’d be really keen to find out what you think about the movie. I love both the book at the movie, though some of the book-lovers I know have been disappointed.
Robert - Hmm, a spanking model teen comedy… Why am I underwhelmed by the idea? ;)
Shame about the big budget movie.
You make me laugh and laugh :)
A comparison I never would have made myself and feel all the more educated and treated for knowing. ;) Thanks for the interesting read! And your creativity is always a treat. :)

Mandy and Tara - happy to entertain you :)
Interesting comparison and very creative!
The first “great name” Hollywood Producer or Director to make a genuine movie with A List actors about any sexually oriented profession, let alone deal with BDSM fairly without the usual shallow assumption of dysfunctional psychology, will clean up and probably win an Oscar.
However, sadly our species in general stuck at an emotional age of about 14 regarding sex and still can’t really deal with it at all, especially our religious folk. The USA is full of creationists and closet fundamentalists, so I guess it isn’t going to be allowed to happen any time soon.
I’d love to see a really deep, sensitive and intelligent portrayal of a great romantic love between a Dom and one of his submissives. But I’m not holding my breath.
Such a movie would have to be made by a truly great director or it would just end up on the underground art house circuit at best in the same bin as Russ Meyer et al.
A pity because even the life and times of a spanking model would be a fascinating human study as long as it was handled in a non-seedy manner and with panache, style, dignity, had a really great sound track (Nothing destroys a movie faster than a mundane and underqwhelming sound track) and had most importantly of all, had a good looking female star with great legs and a bottom to die for! Even a “real” attempt at the story of O with A-listers would be awesome. Instead of the weak fops with goatie beards who acted in the existing version.
