A show of hands: back-whipping
A couple of weeks ago Stephen wrote to me in follow-up to the clip from “La Residencia”, and wanted to discuss back-whipping.
He asked if I’d run a poll on the subject of back-whipping. This seemed like a cool subject to open to the general discussion - not least because I’ve been taking some whipping lessons, and practicing my aim as though flogging’s been entered in the Olympics.
So.
Please leave a comment if back-whipping is something you like to feel, give out or watch. If you’re having an eloquent day, why not also say what it is that attracts you about it?

I used to consider myself a purist spanko and insisted that everything came in either on the buttocks and/or hands but in the late 1990s I agreed to a back flogging and since then have never looked back.
I still prefer most of the punishment to come in lower down but I have come to love back flogging and in my last play, experienced the most wonderful, thick, short single tailed whip, it took my breath away :-). Not only is back whipping great in it’s own right but it also gives the backside a bit of a break, during an extended play scene.

I love to hate to be whipped on my back - it’s much more painful than being hit on the bottom, but at the same time it can feel really good afterwards.

I’ve never been back-whipped myself. It’s one of those things where the balance between punishment and eroticism has shifted away from the erotic.
I just find nothing sexy about it. Back whippings were standard punishments in the navy in the 18th century - they were not erotic then and are not erotic now.
A girl’s punishment should involve some form of humiliation, hence baring her bottom. Whipping her back just doesn’t do it.

I must admit I love it, especially when starting with a spanking and escalating the session gradually. Sure it can be a lot more dangerous than taking a whipping on your bottom if the top doesn’t know what he is doing.
It’s not only the pain that excites me but the feeling of really being punished. After all this is a very traditional form of punishment.
At the moment I have to do self-punishments as Master is away. This is also very exciting but nothing like when he does it.

Exciting to give. But I hate watching back whippings in sm films if the woman whipped has a gorgeous butt that they hide in the skirts. Or even worse, when she is naked and we do see that goegeous butt, and they dont whip it. Horrors of frustration. So please pornmakers - beat the butt too.

Oh, a single-tail, not just on the back, but down through the juncture of buttocks and hips, especially when tied to a post, can be incredible.
As a junior in college, through a contact I made in a comparative religion course, I joined a pseudo-Crowleyian, pseudo-Gardnerian Wicca group. As part of the first degree initiation, the high priestess would whip a male candidate with the single-tail. Twenty-one lashes, in three sets of 7, for the number of the Goddess. The initiations, and all the meetings, were skyclad or naked. After the whipping, the high priestess would initiate a male candidate in the “Great Rite.” The high priest, who was subservient to the high priestess, would initiate a female candidate.
This was my introduction to whipping on the back and buttocks with a single-tail braided whip, which is really just a fancy name for a bull-whip. There is a pretty widespread use of the whip in these initiations though in most gtoups it’s purely symbolic. In this one it was not.
The charged sexual polarity was incredible. Still, whipping played no part in rituals outside of initiations. In fact, they would, I think, probably have been offended if one had called them a BDSM group. At the same time, the structure was classic. The high priestess ran the show, and the high priest was subservient to her. The high priest’s deputy, the maiden, was subservient to him, and dominant over junior male members. The high priestess’s deputy, the page, was subservient to her, as everyone was, and lorded it over junior female members.
At any rate, the single-tail can be an incredible experience. And yes, I think that a whipping on the back in the manner of one whose actual civil status is that of slave, sailor or criminal, divorced from cossetting, can add a special degradation.
