Gay magazine ‘Attitude’ does spanking

My friend K texted me yesterday to say that if I hadn’t seen the cover of “Attitude” magazine, I should have a look at it. “Attitude” being a magazine aimed at gay men, I don’t especially notice it in my wanderings, so I hit Google to see what K had in mind.

This, apparently: the cover of this month’s issue:

Now here’s a curious thing: when vanilla magazines do spanking covers, they’re usually really unsexy. Like the “Loaded” cover from a few months ago:

There’s no connection between the spanker and the spankee; the only connection is with the (assumed to be male) viewer: hey! look at me! aren’t I a sexy devil doing this naughty semi-taboo thing?

Usually I find this really off-putting.

With the “Attitude” cover? I really don’t mind. These are guys, doing a guy thing with each other, addressing other guys. The spankee may be a headless wonder, paid precisely zero attention by the man who’s slapping his butt – however, no women were demeaned in the production of this photo, so it doesn’t raise my heckles the same way.

Spankee solidarity, on the other hand, makes me wish that in the next shot the guy turned around and waved: “Oi! Overe here! Pay attention, damn you!”

Surprise needle play

An item in the Guardian the other week amused me much more than it probably should have, but I’m easy to amuse.

“Oscar-winning actor Marion Cotillard gasped in pain yesterday after France’s culture minister accidentally stuck a pin into her chest as he decorated her with the Order of Arts and Letters.

He may not have meant to do it, but the fact that she’s so cute when she gasps in pain is just a wonderful bonus.

(But I must admit, that’s about as far as I want to go with needle play.)
