Ancient Egypt was, of course, matrilineal. The King was King because he married the Queen; and their eldest daughter was their heiress. Cats, the goddess Bastet, were sacred. I think I’d have been comfortable there;- only I’d have schemed. fought tooth and nail to be a sex slave/consort rather than a eunuch.
Interesting in an odd way. The god on the left is Tehuti, the Egyptian Mercury. The flagellants/flagellated seem to be all M/m. Given the matrilineal nature of ancient Egyptian society, you’d expect Nephthys, in a noir way, or even Isis, to whip Horus. F/m would be more typical. The see-through skirts were worn by the aristocracy and priesthood.
