Rants, Raves and Reviews — By Adele on 26 April, 2007 7:32 pmSo, munchkins, here’s the deal: if you like something you see here on the blog (like maybe a scan of the Easter postcard,* or like maybe something I say in relation to it), and you decide to send it on to a kinky news site (like maybe Melon Farmers), be a fucking dear, and say where you’ve found it, OK?
Attributions are blog currency; when you omit your source in quoting stuff, you make people want to teach you netiquette with a hot poker up somewhere private.

* Yeah, I know the postcard isn’t original art, but if here’s where you’ve found it, would have been nice to say so.

Right on, Adele! And, I surmise the hot poker would negate the need for ginger root?
With you all the way,
In my industry there are really only two things that count – cash and giving credit, and the latter is far, far, more important in the long run. Even more so in the spanking world I should think, because, while one may be a great actor, singer, dancers (I’m none of those I hasten to add), without a back to whip, a bottom to spank or feet to flog , we’re pretty isolated. So those pics, experiences, anecdotes deserve to be fully credited.
R (removing single-tail from closet, and then returning it., because such Non-Attributors, don’t deserved to be punished!)

I agree with you, Adele. I try to give credit where it is due whenever I can. Granted, there are times when I can’t remember exactly where I found something…but I’ll almost always make a note of that. I’ve had people use my collage creations or other things and never give me an ounce of credit. I don’t usually mind, but some of the little things on my blog where done by me. That kind of crap blows!
Ruby
Ruby, so true. One of the many positive sides of giving credit is that it can have some very interesting consequences. ;-)
I just spoke to a friend who’d asked to use my real name in the acknowledgements in her very kinky book. It’s now in several languages and she said, “I hope your friends will be happy to see your name in the, er, back pages!”
On more than one occasion, I’ve been confronted at industry meets and greets with, “Ah Redhead [sic] we know all about you. ;-) Thing is, I’m not really into ;-) her kink. But the nice side of it is, you get to know ‘kink friendly’ people.

Adele, I feel for your annoyance; of course this happens to me all the time.
Trouble is, I’ve been on both sides of that fence. When you posted that card, I did a right-click-and-save, and that image is sitting in my folder of potential blogging images.
Question is, by next Easter, will I remember where I got it? I have, conservatively, a quarter million images on my hard drive, going back to 1994 or so.
Honestly speaking, I’ve got stuff that’s been on my hard drive since LAST WEEK that I don’t remember where it came from already.
The result is, I publish a lot of stuff without attribution, because I can’t help it.
On the other hand, I routinely find blogs where the last six images they’ve published were previously published on my blog, a day or two before they “borrowed” them without attribution. I hate that. They know what they are doing, and it’s rude.
On the third or gripping hand, there are folks who actively and seriously believe it’s WRONG to give attribution to a site like yours or mine if we didn’t originate or own the pic. They think, and argue “well, it’s not your pic, if I give you credit it’s a slight on whomever’s pic it actually is, and I don’t know how to find them.”
No, I don’t like those people either.
Dan, it’s true that it’s impossible to find out where a lot of the pics come from. Hell, I have no idea where I got that postcard in the first place: a friend must have mailed it to me, I pasted it into my scrapbook, and, when the time came, I scanned and posted it.
It’s hard to be annoyed about particular episodes where attribution is lacking, because it seems petty and greedy. Several of these in a row, though – and one gets more than a little annoyed. I can’t even imagine what it’s like on a blog the size of yours…
Sorry Adele
I always default to attributing items. In this case it was suggested to me that the gaze from melon farmers may not be appreciated. I will add a link on the next updte
I love the “Bums on the run” idea, let me know if you would like a plug
Dave, no problem. “Bums on the run” certainly appreciate any plugs, expressions of good wishes or even simple cheers. :)
