I think it's a way of topping for those of us who can't take ourselves seriously as authority figures. I just don't know how to counter bratty comebacks! I can play a fetishy Mistress without much trouble because that kind of scene isn't about down-to-earth authority. It's pure fantasy. I don't feel the pressure to earn respect in a scene like that because it's already inherent in the power dynamic. But playing a teacher or a boss or any other genuine *authority figure* is beyond my abilities. So a prefect who doesn't really HAVE the authority and doesn't need to prove herself is a lot more comfortable. (My other favorite prefect role is the *reluctant* one. The good girl who's more concerned with being liked by the other girls than being any kind of authority. She lets the girls off if she thinks she can get away with it and when the headmaster finds out he canes her and then forces her to do her duty.
