Pillow Talk: Interview with Niki Flynn

Sitting on the pillows with me today is Niki Flynn – the star of some of the most daring spanking video projects, and a thoroughly kinky girl. She gained immediate and overwhelming fame in the scene when she became the first Western actress to appear in a production by the hitherto mysterious Czech producers Lupus Pictures. Speaking openly in previous interviews, articles and posts on various spanking forums, Niki has since established herself as an enthusiastic player, an advocate of the freedom to have uncomfortable fantasies, and a prolific, imaginative actor – and the spanking world has sat up and watched.

It’s good to see you again, Niki. It has been two years since you’ve made your debut at Lupus Pictures, and you’ve been a busy girl since then. How many companies have you worked with?

At the last count I think it was nine. There’s a filmography on the Spankingart-Wikia site.

I shouldn’t really ask whether you have a favourite producer. But do you have a favourite video that you’ve worked on (work with present company excluded)?

Well, I have work that I’m very proud of and shoots where I had the time of my life. So it’s hard to choose between the finished product and the experience of making it. And sorry, but I can’t exclude present company: the Northern Spanking and Bars & Stripes shoots were some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a shoot. I don’t have a favorite video, but I have favorite moments. I can think of a few from the B&S shoot, but since they’re not on the site yet I wouldn’t want to spoil it by talking about them. The haircut from “Crime & Punishment” and the water torture from “Stalin 2” probably stand out most in my mind. They were both extremely unpleasant to experience, but the result on film is intense. Also the opening of “The Conspiracy” – I love hard resistance play and Mr. Daniels was great to fight with. I spat in his face, which he wasn’t expecting; the gloves were off then! There’s just something about being pinned down by four people and forcibly stripped…

How do you choose who to model for? Do you turn down any offers of work?

I usually go by films or clips that I like. Or I meet people and get to know them and they ask if I’d like to work for them. Someday I hope to work with Shadow Lane; it’s just been difficult trying to schedule something. I’d also love to work for Spanking Epics – their period pieces are amazing. I’ve turned down offers of private work for safety reasons. I just have no idea how skilled tops are if I haven’t seen them on film. And given my reputation (“Oh, Lupus girl – she can take anything!”), I have to imagine they want something very severe. I’m not nearly as tough as my reputation and I can’t afford to take a risk like that.

Could you explain for the uninitiated what you mean by “private work”?

“Come visit me in [insert foreign city] and let me cane you on film like Lupus does.” I’m not offended by these offers, just astonished at the expectation that I would go to a strange country and play that hard with a complete stranger when I have no evidence of their skill, professionalism or even sanity. I also get a lot of offers to do 121s, (commercial one-to-one spanking encounters – A.H.) but I’ve never done it. That would be a lot safer, but it’s still not something I’m comfortable with.

Suppose you’re talking to a girl who wants to be a spanking model. A young, nubile thing. What one most important piece of advice you could give her?

Set limits. Most producers aren’t leering, limit-pushing sleazebags, but you do hear stories. Also – don’t be afraid to make suggestions. Some companies have shot so much content that it’s impossible for the idea well not to run dry. I’d also probably offer the same advice someone gave me once upon a time: Make sure you are OK being immortalized this way because if you suddenly get religion a few years from now, your face and body are all over the net and on tens of thousands of strange computers.

Right, very sensible. Do you care to share some of your hard limits?

Sure, but they’re pretty quirky. Two of my hard limits are the “caught smoking” and “caught masturbating” offenses. The former is my biggest squick. And the latter – well, the idea of being punished for something so natural and normal is offensive to me – to say nothing of the stupidity of getting caught! *Laughs* The words “stupid” and “bitch” are also hard limits. It’s OK to say I’ve done something stupid, just not that I am stupid. I’m not wildly keen on explicit genitalia shots either. Nudity is fine if it’s appropriate to the scene, but extreme gyno close-ups are just gross.

You get fan mail, of course. What’s the most peculiar piece of mail you’ve ever received?

Well, you posted one of my favorites – the poetic masterpiece of brevity, “i spank u hard.” I really don’t understand that kind of email. But my favorite has to be the one from a guy who asked if I was the REAL Niki Flynn or just someone capitalizing on her name.

And you said?..

“No, you’ve found me out. But it’s just so boring being Nicole Kidman.”

You are known for taking extremely severe punishment on screen. Have you ever had to stop the filming because the pain was too much?

Believe it or not, no – though I’ve stopped scenes in private that were too much. When I’m shooting I know there will be a cut soon and I really don’t want to ruin the shot. Once we’ve cut I can always ask if the top can back off a bit. In private I can afford to be completely lost in the roleplay because I don’t need to worry about where the cameras are or whether my face is in shot. But it also means I often have no idea how long something is going to go on, so it’s hard to pace myself. When I’m shooting I know exactly how many strokes it will be and even if I’m near my limits (yes, I do have them!) I can gut it out until the break. People always say things like, “I could never take that much!” I say that too. But the reality is that when you’re there, in the moment, with the cameras on you and everyone watching, the situation is so unreal that sometimes you’re not even aware how much it hurts or how much it should hurt until it’s over. And if you can get yourself to a place in your mind where you believe you have no choice, it’s not a matter of what you can take, but simply whether or not you break character to yell “Cut!”

Your most recent release is “Stalin 3″ from Lupus. You have openly spoken about taking a long time to wind down from that shoot. Have you enjoyed watching it?

That’s a hard question to answer. I don’t know if it’s the kind of film that’s meant to be “enjoyed” in any conventional sense. I think it’s extremely well made and very disturbing, as it makes such a powerful statement. During the filming I was completely in that headspace for days and as you say, it took me a long time to come back from it emotionally. It was shot out of sequence and then edited together with archive footage. So seeing everything chronologically is strange because the completed film doesn’t match my memories of what my character went through. Her reality had no structure and shooting the film was such a visceral experience for me – moment to moment of dread, terror and misery. But watching it puts me at an analytical distance, which is a bit disorienting. Watching my character go through such an extreme ordeal on film is more unsettling than the actual experience was for me. During the shoot I was locked inside my own perspective, so I had no idea how brutal it would look from outside. Does that make sense?

It does, of course. But I wonder, if you don’t think a film like this is meant to be enjoyed, how does it feel to hear the viewers say they find it hot?

I have no problem with someone finding it hot – how hypocritical would that be? The film is not reality, nor is it an endorsement of violence or abuse. I’m playing a role in a fictional story and while the punishments are real, offscreen I’ve obviously consented. So there’s no guilt in getting off on watching me suffer. There is nothing wrong with any fantasy, however dark or twisted. I suppose I would be disturbed by someone who got off on actual accounts of such torture, but again it’s not my place to judge.

Let’s talk about the future now. You’re going back to shoot with Strictly English soon, right?

Yes. Though this won’t be anything like as intense as “Stalin 3”!

Is there any inside information you can give us on the upcoming film?

Another tough question. We have two really cool scenarios we’ve been brainstorming for a while, but we’re not sure if we’ll be able to shoot either of them this time. One is loosely inspired by cult horror films and has a lot of fun playing with the clichés of the genre. And another is a proposed update to an old Strictly English video – “Paperback Writer.” I’ll get to do a lot of different roleplays in this one, so I’m excited about that. But as I said, we could wind up doing something else entirely. The members of my Yahoo group are certainly supplying me with a lot of ideas!

Have you thought about making films in other genres of erotica? A different fetish, or, perhaps, good old vanilla porn?

I think it would be fascinating to do a film in another fetish genre – foot fetish in particular interests me. You definitely won’t be seeing me in any vanilla porn. The stuff that turns me on is so non-PC that no one would touch it! I would be curious to branch out into bondage and more dungeon-oriented BDSM. I have a hardcore punishment fetish, so “mutual pleasure” doesn’t work for me. But forced slavery could be interesting. I’m curious anyway. And of course I still dream of being in a slasher film. But that’s not exactly erotica.

Would you say the fame you’ve acquired for your film work has in any way changed the way you play in your personal life?

It hampers it a bit because while I rarely play that hard in private, if I have a shoot coming up I have to be extra careful. Not just because of possible marks, but because of skin damage. And sometimes a heavy shoot will prevent me from playing privately for a while. When I shot with Dallas, for example, it was two days before the Shadow Lane party. He beat me black and blue (as I knew he would – it was a genuine punishment) and I wasn’t able to play at the party.

Now, for the winning questions from your fans, which they have been sending in over the last week. The question I chose is from Kim: “You have been in the scene for sometime now and have done a fair amount of work for various sites. Who has been your favourite dom and why? Are there any doms who haven’t punished you that you would like to be punished by and why? They can be still active on the scene or be retired. Basically, which dom in the “I Spy Book Of Doms” would you most like to meet?”

I don’t know if I can pick just one favorite. Gillian Lancer is certainly high on the list. She’s just so much fun to play off and she has an answer for everything. Pavel Šťastný and Alexandra Wolf are also great – very skilled and very intimidating! I enjoyed working with Mr. Daniels from RealSpankings – it would be a blast to do an intense kidnap scene with him, with lots of resistance play. I would also love to shoot with Keith Jones someday (what girl wouldn’t?) and I confess to a weakness for Tom at Girls Boarding School, especially when he’s speaking German. But I can’t leave out the headmaster in the old Roué classic, “Room 2D”. That sharp, upper class military accent is delicious. And if Christopher Lee ever decides to try his hand in this genre, I’m there!

And the winning fan question of your choice, from Phil Foster: “Having read elsewhere that you were spanked while growing up by both your dad and eldest brother I have been wondering about at what point in your life did being spanked become a pleasurable experience?”

I had a hard time choosing only one question because there were so many good ones. But I picked this one because it’s something I never actually thought about before. I’ve been a hard-wired spanko for as long as I can remember, but throughout my childhood spankings were definitely something awful, to be avoided at all costs. The dread and anticipation were torture, definitely nothing I wanted or fantasized about. I was a very late bloomer sexually, so while I was obsessed with punishments in books and movies, I never connected them with anything I could actually enjoy. One day my high school boyfriend said something playful about spanking me and I froze up completely. I thought he could read my mind and see the unhealthy fixation. I didn’t know what to do. Was he mocking it? Threatening me with abuse? I had no way to process it. I felt caught, guilty and ashamed. My terrified expression must have scared him off because he never mentioned it again. But a couple of days later I was kicking myself for not playing along. I don’t know if he was a true spanko or not, but it was definitely a missed opportunity. Not long afterwards, spanking became the only thing I fantasized about. Nothing else felt “right.”

What question do you wish I asked you?

“What spanking movie would you most like to make?” More than anything I would love to do a proper version of Frank and I. It’s my favorite kink book of all time and the one that unlocked everything for me. A girl disguised as a boy, spanked and birched by a man who initially doesn’t know she’s a girl and is interested only in strict discipline… it’s just about the hottest scenario I can imagine. And set in Victorian England as well… **swoon**
