This is one reason I don’t like paddling in school. This guy is getting abused. This isn’t about discipline. It is just ratings for the show and money for the school.
I suppose Bodack is right, although I think the student would have gotten the same treatment wether the cameras were there or not. Paddling was so common when I was in school that the only shocking thing was that he was given any choice at all. A boy that big would have gotten at least 5 licks not a mere 3. The times a choice was given it amounted to no choice at all, like take your licks or repeat 8th grade. Some choice! Abuse? I suppose so. We didn’t think of it as abuse at the time but I’m sure it affected me otherwise I probably wouldn’t be a regular lurker/commenter on this blog.
I don’t think its abuse per say, but I do have a big issue with it being on TV. I mean, these are minors, and WE like what we like….not that I think us spankos are awkward creepy people, but its the same reason I won’t spank any kids I may have.
Well, I wouldn’t say I’m not “awkward and creepy”, but I’ve solved the problem by not having any kids. The real danger of discussing it on a site like this, even if it was originally a mainstream presentation, is that it could be misconstrued to be something other than what it is; ” A musing on the science of artistic suffering”. We are all scientists, you see…
…those of us who aren’t artists, that is!
