Punk Rockers on Domination

“Dominated Love Slave” by Green Day is a pretty old song, but I haven’t heard it before. They sure do have some interesting ideas about SM…

Or are they just taking a mickey out of masochist wannabes?

Decide for yourself.

NoFX is another punk band into BDSM (in various forms) with a few songs and albums devoted to the lifestyles. They have actually played shows at a few different BDSM (or related) clubs/venues in the SanFran area.

S&M Airlines (album) is probably their most famous refernce, but Cool and Unusual Punishment is a personal favorite song of mine.

Although on a side note I saw one show of theirs (just after their Nimrod release) and they really are the wanna be sort. Ripping off other bands antics such as showering the audience with soda and beating up the drum set. The worst part was pretending they intended to jump off the speakers only to crawl back down and laugh.

  2. Edidid says:

Sorry, the side note was referring to Green Day, not NoFX. Poor proof reading on my end and I am unable to alter the post.

Don’t feel bad, Adele, your not the only one who finds “new” music late in the game. It seems like a lot of the music I “discover” is long after the artist or band is out of style or dead. Take for example Sublime, Everclear, and Beethoven.

I’m no expert on male subs but in the video they all look young enough to be spanked.

  4. Sarah says:

They look young enough to be spanked, but I have a feeling they’d run a mile if anyone tried it, and as for their idea of being hit on the the forehead with a chain – Well honestly! Silly boys! Where’s my stapler….

  5. Tigerbutt says:

To quote the movie “Office Space”; “I believe you have my stapler…”

  6. Steve from Kent says:

“I know this chick she lives down on Melrose
She ain’t satisfied without some pain
Friday night is goin’ up inside her…again
    Well crack the whip
‘Cause that bitch is just insane
    I’m serious…

    She’s pretty tied up
    Hangin’ upside down
    She’s pretty tied up
    An you can ride her
    She’s pretty tied up
    Hangin’ upside down
I can’t tell you she’s the right one”

From ‘Pretty Tied Up’ by Guns & Roses. The lyrics are by Izzy Stradlin, apparently.

  7. Green Day Fan says:

Green Day have some S&M related lyrics in another of their albums- Warning…

    Waiting in a room
All dressed up and bound and gagged
    To a chair
    It’s so unfair
I won’t dare move, for the pain
She puts me through is what I need
    So make it bleed

    I’m in distress, oh mistress
I confess so do it one more time
    These handcuffs are too tight
You know I will obey, so please
    Don’t make me beg
For blood, sex and booze you give me

    Some say I’m disturbed
But it’s what I deserve, another lesson
To be learned…from a girl called kill
My head is in the gutter
Thank you sir, strike up another mandolin
    Of discipline
    Throw me to the dogs
Let them eat my flesh down
    To the wood
    It feels so good

Greenday is a horrible, horrible band, so I wouldn’t waste that much time worrying about their opinions toward S&M (or anything else, for that matter). If you need definitive proof of their fucktardery, listen to the first thirty seconds of any song on “American Idiot.”

To answer your question, yes, they are posers.

  9. Steve from Kent says:

Lurker – I’ve listened to every track on American Idiot from start to finish, because I own the CD. I interpret your above comments as meaning something along the lines of “I, Lurker, do not actually like the music or performing style of Green Day”, which is a perfectly legitimate personal view for you to adopt, based on your own musical preferences.

Yes, of course they are posers. Do you know of any rock bands who aren’t?

  10. Lurker says:

Its a matter of extent. Some bands are more pretentious and boldfaced about it than others. A lot of punk rock bands seem especially guilty of this, with Greenday being a particularly good example.

Anyway, let’s not get into a longwinded flamefest about music. As you pointed out, my opinions about Greenday are just that.
