Show of hands: writing lines
To me writing lines is soothing, almost physically pleasant – particularly if my pen and paper are nice. It can work as a punishment if there’s something I’d rather be doing instead, but on the whole I find line-writing a pleasantly sensual experience.
Also, in a long role-play scene it’s a great way to heighten anticipation: a girl is sitting at a desk, scribbling away, knowing that every little mistake will add to the final tally of strokes. Perhaps, there are some strokes delivered along the way as well, to keep her focused. Mmm.
So how do you feel about writing lines? Are they nice? Unpleasant? Indifferent? Would a line-writing scene in a spanking movie hold your interest? Show of hands, please!

Ha ha I actually find it a horrid punishment cos I never write neatly. And any time I’ve had detention I manage to mess things up cos I get nervous and lose concentration! Blloody torture!
I could honestly care less about writing lines. My hands run off doing their own thing (writing) and my mind is free to follow its own tangents. I entertain myself. :-D
Adele – do you like lined, or unlined, paper? I never liked doing lines on blank paper because I can’t keep them level. Otherwise, same as you, but not a ballpoint, got to be ink.
So long as there are nice school uniforms in it, a line-writing scene would be lovely.
I’d get bored watching a long line-writing scene … unless it had Harry-Potter-esque punishment involved!
And I wouldn’t mind the tedium of line-writing, except that my wrist starts to really hurt, which I think is a carpal-tunnel warning, so I’d spend the whole rest of the time freaked out about my wrist — not particularly helpful in a scene!
I’d rather be asked to type an essay, which would be better for my wrist (well, to some extent, as I could rest it a bit during typing) and would make me think actively about what I did wrong, as opposed to just passively copying. (And for a *real* punishment, this would be rather more efficacious!)
My wrist starts to ache really fast, too. (and I have terrible handwriting!) In principle the things is hot as anything, and within moderation I think it can add to a scene. I don’t know what I’d think about watching a lot of it in a video…it could make a very cool element, but I wouldn’t want to watch anyone scribbling for very long!!
One hot, but evil punishment once was that I was spanked hard and then sat on a prickly mat to write lines. Hideously unpleasant and I never want to do it again, but it’s fun to remember.
Love doing it. It appeals to the part of me that loves doing lettering and calligraphy. Especially if I’m told they’re going to be gone over carefully with a cane stroke for every mistake.
Following a trip to the Museum of Education in Glasgow where Paul bought me a dip pen and ink, I had to write a specific line on unlined paper fifty times. I could take as long as I needed, draw each line in pencil with a ruler first, but each one had to be perfect and could not be done over.
Oh, and I had to write them in a uniform, knickers at my knees, sitting on a cane chair. It was 10 summers ago, but I remember it clearly as a wonderful scene.
That’s how I feel about lines.
I would have thought, (and I base this on my faithful study of your blog from its inception), that you may be in a minority in apparently having a punishmnent-as-such fetish. Keih and Mija seeem to have a school-punishment fetish, or even a school-as-such fetish, but my study of your writings over the years convinces me that if someone punished you by verbally chastising you in suitably harsh terms you would be able to get off on it. Of course it wouldn’t be the same as being hrashed, but I think you’d be able to use it.
I love writing lines! I mean, not all the time, but as a ‘variation on a theme’ I’m with you.. it slows things down, gives me time to enjoy being _in_ the situation.
Also, depending upon the person reviewing the lines, it can provide fodder for additional activities.. there are issues of neatness, consistency and accuracy in counting/listing the lines.
Love this topic! Do you have a specific book set aside for punishment writings? I love that idea.
Wow I havn’t thought about writing lines since grade school. They used to make Us do that only when they were tired of beating Us. whitch They could do at Their whim any time they felt for any made up reason they could conjure. BTW this is not 1760’s England, This is 1960’s fairfeild Ohio.
