Also, depending upon the person reviewing the lines, it can provide fodder for additional activities.. there are issues of neatness, consistency and accuracy in counting/listing the lines.

Following a trip to the Museum of Education in Glasgow where Paul bought me a dip pen and ink, I had to write a specific line on unlined paper fifty times. I could take as long as I needed, draw each line in pencil with a ruler first, but each one had to be perfect and could not be done over.

Oh, and I had to write them in a uniform, knickers at my knees, sitting on a cane chair. It was 10 summers ago, but I remember it clearly as a wonderful scene.

That’s how I feel about lines.

One hot, but evil punishment once was that I was spanked hard and then sat on a prickly mat to write lines. Hideously unpleasant and I never want to do it again, but it’s fun to remember.

And I wouldn’t mind the tedium of line-writing, except that my wrist starts to really hurt, which I think is a carpal-tunnel warning, so I’d spend the whole rest of the time freaked out about my wrist — not particularly helpful in a scene!

I’d rather be asked to type an essay, which would be better for my wrist (well, to some extent, as I could rest it a bit during typing) and would make me think actively about what I did wrong, as opposed to just passively copying. (And for a *real* punishment, this would be rather more efficacious!)

So long as there are nice school uniforms in it, a line-writing scene would be lovely.
