I once got to look around the ship while it was still in commission. I’ve never been on board since it was opened to the public, though.

RichT – If you are refering to the practice of “kissing the gunners daughter” I must say that there is much confusiion about this and I feel like it is my devine calling to straighten this out once and for all; The gunners daughter is a highly polished flat peice of metal on the breech (backside) of an artillary piece (cannon) to which an aiming device such as a gunners quadrant is butted (placed) momentarily just before firing. An unfortunate midshipman-cadet, cabin or drummer boy sentenced to kissing the gunners daughter was compelled to straddle (not bend over) the piece while held or tied in place, having to endure the extreme heat or cold of a large mass of iron, bronse or brass on his bare genitalia. Before each stroke of the paddle, whip, cane or ropes-end he was further compelled to bend his head forward to “kiss the gunners daughter”. I hate to be such a stickler for propriety but some things must be pointed out for the common good. I’d like to see Adele, Niki or some other unfortunate (fortunate?) “volunteer” treated in this manner if for no other reason than for “old times sake”. There are plenty of unemployed cannons lying around, lets get the cameras rolling and then get crackin”! LOL :)
